KUCHING: Police in Sarawak are working alongside the legal 4D companies, namely Magnum, Sports Toto and Cash Sweep to eradicate illegal gambling, said state CID chief SAC Denis Leong.
A meeting was held yesterday at IPK Sarawak, Jalan Badruddin between the police and representatives from the 4D companies on matters related to illegal 4D activities, focusing on areas where both parties can assist one another and to foster a closer working relationship.
Leong said this year, police personnel in the state had conducted a total of 1,426 operations against illegal 4D activities and out of which, 1,383 were successful with 1,553 arrests and RM 539,167 seized.
He elaborated that operations were conducted in Kuching (341), Miri (293), Padawan (202), Sibu (107), Bintulu (65), Kota Samarahan (56), Bau (51), Sarikei (48), Serian (44), Sri Aman (30), Limbang (26), Mukah (20), Maradong (16), Song (15), Marudi (14), Kanowit (12), Dalat (11), Lubuk Antu (10), Lawas (10), Kapit (10), Betong (9), Simunjan (9), Saratok (9), Julau (8), Matu Daro (4), Lundu (3), Tatau (2) and Belaga (1).
He added that with the assistance of Sarawak Energy Berhad, a total of 159 illegal 4D outlets had their electricity supply disconnected.
“Police are seeking for even more information on illegal gambling activities and we assure that the identities of those who give information will be kept strictly confidential,” he appealed.
