KUCHING: Police here have established an emergency response team (ERT) to monitor traffic flow and take immediate action to reduce congestion.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the team was set up by the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

“This team will take immediate action to alleviate the traffic jam in  crowded areas.

“We also expect such a problem to occur around shopping malls and the main roads in the city.”

The roads expected to be heavily congested during Hari Raya Aidilfitri are Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Satok, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Gambier and Jalan Main Bazaar.

ACP Ahsmon added that a total of 100 police personnel would be mobilised to enforce ‘Op Selamat’, which runs for eight days starting Thursday (April 20), to ensure smooth traffic flow, prevent accidents and crime.

Those planning to go back to their hometowns to celebrate or go on holiday outside of the district are advised to fill out the ‘Balik Kampung’ notification form online through the Volunteer Smart Phone (VSP) app.

“The app can be downloaded onto your phones to make it easier for us to conduct patrols around your residential areas throughout the holiday period.

“You can also print out the ‘Balik Kampung’ form and submit it at the nearest police station.”

ACP Ahsmon urged the public to make full use of the VSP app to help the law fight and prevent crime.
