Police hold fruitful meeting with energy, telco firms

KUCHING: The state police held a meeting with SESCO and other telecommunication companies at its headquarters here yesterday relating to rampant theft of cables and telecommunication equipment.

The telecommunication companies are SACOFA, TM, Celcom, Maxis, Digi and Umobile.

Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dato Dev Kumar who was at the meeting said
Commissioner of Police Datuk Mazlan bin Mansor chaired the meeting and they have come up with many ideas to tackle the problem.

Issues relating to security and enforcement were also brought up by both sides and they all cooperated and shared information with the common goal of reducing theft and mischief to their installations.

The police with the assistance of the companies will continue enforcing ‘Ops Lusuh’. Checks on dealers of second-hand goods will be intensified and licences of those flouting the rules will be recommended for revocation.

Datuk Mazlan also agreed to hold the meeting with the companies concerned twice a year in order to follow up on issues raised.
