PADAWAN: A luxury condominium unit suspected of operating as an illegal gambling centre in the city was raided last Monday night.

Police arrested 12 men during the raid.

Sarawak Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong said that the Ops Dadu raid was conducted by a D7 police team at 10.30pm.

Upon inspection, the team found that three rooms have poker tables set up while one room has a mahjong table.

“During the raid, 12 local men aged 17 to 32 were found inside and they are believed to be gambling.

“The team also seized 409 numbered chips, 104 cards, two ‘Dealer’ chips, an ‘All In’ chip, a ‘Big Blind’ chip, 288 mahjong tiles, tables, chairs and room key cards,” he said in a statement.

He noted that the winning cash is credited to the winner’s account with no cash exchange at said location.

Leong pointed out that the centre was believed to have been operating for nearly two months.

All the individuals were brought to the Padawan police station for further investigation under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
