The suspect wanted for burglary was arrested by police on Friday.

KUCHING: A man wanted by the police for being involved in a shop burglary in Satok on Wednesday (June 24), was arrested on Friday.

Kuching district deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa stated that the suspect was arrested at a supermarket in Matang at 8.30am.

The perpetrator’s identity was discovered due to the efforts of the intelligence team as well as information obtained from the closed circuit camera (CCTV) at the scene.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect broke into a phone shop and stole two power banks, three earphones, and a USB cable.

“The team managed to apprehend the suspect and seized the set of clothes used during the crime, based on CCTV evidence from the scene,” he said in a statement.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and has six criminal records — three theft cases, two burglary records and one drug-related offence.

Merbin added the suspect will be questioned to find out the location of the stolen goods.

“The suspect is remanded for five days until July 2 to facilitate investigations and identify whether the suspect was involved in other burglaries around Kuching.” The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, where a conviction is punishable by a five-year jail term or a fine.
