A 13-year-old teenager led the police on a high-speed chase covering approximately 10 kilometres before being apprehended in an incident in Chukai, Kemaman.

The teenager, behind the wheel of a Proton Saga, attempted to escape after encountering police officers conducting Ops Lancar and addressing street delinquency at Kemaman Waterfront.

Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan said the teenager brazenly drove against traffic before accelerating away when confronted by the authorities.

Finally coming to a halt at Taman Banggol Indah, the teenager fled the scene alongside four accomplices.

In a commendable effort, the police managed to detain all the teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, for further investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Moreover, a summons was issued to the mother of the teenage driver, who is the registered owner of the vehicle, holding her accountable for the incident.
