KUCHING: The police are working closely with local councils to combat crimes involving entertainment outlets, said Kuching Police District chief, ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai.

“The local councils are the ones who issued the licence for the entertainment outlets, and should the entertainment outlet operators fail to comply with the law, such as operating beyond the stipulated operating hours, we will take action against them,” he said when met at the IPD Kuching Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri here, yesterday.

Abang Ahmad disclosed that the crime rate in Kuching was under control and they were also collaborating with other police districts in their bid to reduce crimes and eradicating illegal gambling.

“I urge the public to cooperate with us (police) by becoming our eyes and ears and to report any crimes or suspicious activities happening in their areas so that swift action can be taken against the culprits,” he said.

He said the number of motorcycle theft cases recorded this year was lower as compared to the corresponding period last year following the arrests of several motorcycle theft groups and syndicates.

“Although the number of bike theft cases has decreased, it doesn’t mean that we can relax. In fact we should increase our efforts in combating crimes and bring peace and order to this district,” he said.
