KUCHING: Patients who are Covid-19 positive will be kept separate from those still awaiting laboratory test results, assured State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

He said patients with non-Covid-19 infections who were waiting for their Covid-19 swab test results would be placed in quarantine centres.

“However, we will not mix them with Covid-19 patients. They will be isolated and then we wait for their results.

“If they are Covid-19 positive, we will transfer them to the hospital for treatment,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily update press conference yesterday.

Meanwhile, when asked what would occur if Covid-19 swab test results were uncertain, he said that the test would usually be repeated.

In such a situation, he said medical personnel would also interpret the results along with the patient’s clinical signs and symptoms.

“We will review the matter as a whole to see if it is an actual case or not,” he said.

Dr Chin said if repeated results came back uncertain but the patient had no clinical signs, then the case might not be treated as Covid-19 positive.

“We usually let the clinicians decide,” he said.
