BINTULU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) plays a significant role in shaping the state’s development, said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, who is also the Premier of Sarawak, is confident that the new line-up elected during the party’s triennial general assembly (TGA), comprising a combination of experienced and youth leaders, can positively adapt to the changing political landscape.

“As a component party of GPS, the PDP has a role in shaping the development of Sarawak.

“We will continue to strive and work together to uplift the state and its people.

“I can see that the PDP TGA 2023 went very well and smoothly, so I would like to congratulate president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and his committee as well as party members on this achievement,” he said.

He said this when delivering his address at the party’s TGA 2023 today (June 11) at Dinner World Restaurant here.

Using the analogy of building a house, Abang Johari said it is crucial for its foundation and pillars to be strong; this is applicable to the GPS and its component parties.

He stressed that GPS is the platform that fights for the state’s rights and its people, regardless of their background.

“Building a house takes time and proper planning; it is easy to destroy but difficult to build.

“Even though we have different ideas and plans on how to develop the state and its people, we must have a common platform among us.

“Our politics must also be correct with good intentions, and we must cooperate with each other regardless of party affiliation,” he said.

At the same time, Abang Johari said the GPS government strives to elevate Sarawak to become a high-income and developed state by the year 2030.

“We have been building our beloved Sarawak for 60 years, so we must continue to protect and further develop the state,” he added.

Also present were GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, chief political secretary to Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, PDP top leaders, and other dignitaries.
