KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the handing over of zakat (tithe) from Syarikat Sanjung Etika Sdn Bhd and Petronesa Group to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) during an Iftar ceremony at Dewan Jamilah, Yayasan Sarawak, here last night (April 6).

The first zakat presentation amounting to RM45,750 was handed over by Syarikat Sanjung Etika Sdn Bhd Group chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki to Finance and Administration Sector head Sulaiman Mahli, representing the TBS.

Meanwhile, the second presentation, amounting to RM384,157, was also handed over by Abu Bakar, who is also the chairman of Petronesa, to Sulaiman.

In the meantime, a total of 87 children from Yayasan Kemajuan Insan Sarawak (YAKIN), which were represented by 10 recipients, 35 children from Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (represented by 10 recipients), and 159 children from Yayasan Sarawak (represented by 30 recipients) received a symbolic donation of ‘duit raya’ presented by Abang Johari, the chairman of Yayasan Sarawak.

At the event, about 600 Yayasan Sarawak employees also had the opportunity to break their fast together with Abang Johari.

Also present were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and others.
