BALAI RINGIN: The Gawai Dayak serves not only as a celebration but also as a significant platform for preserving the traditional customs of the Dayak community.

Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie said during the celebration, celebrants would proudly wear their traditional attire manifesting their desire to preserve their tradition and heritage.

“At the same time, the celebration also shows the unity of the people in the area,” she said during a Ngiling Bidai ceremony held in Kampung Engsebang Pelaie here recently.

At the event, Doris announced a grant of RM18,000 to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Engsebang Pelaie along with an additional RM3,000 allocated to the village’s Women Bureau.

The celebration, themed ‘Segulai Sejalai’, was also filled with other events such as  karaoke performances, ‘ngajat’ dance, and ‘ngetas ranyai’.
