SIBU: The construction of the new Primary Respiratory Clinic at Jalan Oya Polyclinic here is progressing and is expected to be completed by the end of March this year.
According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, the building foundation work has already commenced.
“I have allocated a total of RM149,750 from my MRP (Minor Rural Project) fund for this project so that the people of Sibu can have better medical facilities,” he said on his Facebook post on Wednesday.
The new clinic, situated at the former car park of the polyclinic, aims to provide a dedicated space for respiratory care.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Respiratory Clinic had to relocate to the polyclinic’s car park to ensure the separation of patients.
Unfortunately, this makeshift arrangement exposed patients to the elements, including rain and heat.
The upcoming clinic aims to rectify this issue, providing a conducive environment for healthcare professionals to work effectively.
Chieng said that as part of the construction process, eight parking lots will be sacrificed to make way for the new clinic.
The polyclinic medical officer-in-charge, Dr Chieng Hie Meng had previously said that on an average a day, about 70 fever and cough patients seek treatment at the clinic.
