KUCHING: The Malaysian Family Sales Programme (PJKM) in Sarawak managed to secure over RM4.5 million worth of sales in 154 locations with more than 21,000 of household visitors.

According to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Office (KPDNHEP) Sarawak chief enforcement officer Peter J. Berinus Agang, the implementation of the said programme, is an effort of the ministry to ease the living cost burden borne by the rakyat.

“Through this PJKM, various daily necessities such as chicken, eggs, cooking oil, sugar, flour, and vegetables are sold at special prices.

“In addition to the prices offered, contributions from the MPs and state assemblypersons have also helped to further reduce the prices of goods offered in this programme.

“With this, I hope more MPs, state assemblypersons both from the government and the opposition will participate and contribute in our efforts to reduce the cost of living burden borne by the people,” he said during his PJKM walkabout at Everrise Supermarket, Metrocity today.

For the record, the implementation of the programme was supported and held in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) along with other agencies such as Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA); Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM); National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS); National Fishermen’s Association (NEKMAT); and Farmers Organisation Board.

“On top of that, this programme is also supported by more than 240 strategic partners from retail industry players comprising hypermarkets, suppliers and wholesalers,” he added.

Meanwhile, when asked about the efforts that will be undertaken by the KPDNHEP when the price scheme of chicken is lifted on June 30, Peter stated that the ministry will continue to monitor the prices.

“This is to ensure that there are no poultry traders who will take advantage of the lifted price scheme and gain unreasonable profits,” he said.
