KUCHING: The formation of the Sago and Nipah Industry Development Board will help regulate the price of the products, thus creating a win-win situation between the smallholders and the manufacturers, says Rosyton Valentine (GPS-Tellian).

“Through the Sago and Nipah Industry Development Board, we will be able to determine the best approach in setting reasonable prices based on market factors so that some adjustment can be done,” he said when debating of the Sago and Nipah Development Board Bill 2022 in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

The board, once set up, will help coordinate and stabilise prices for the benefit and of the smallholders and the industry.

Royston said the prices for rumbiah varied, based on the locations, citing Balingan as an example where the commodity was offered around RM7, Mukah between RM8 and RM10 Dalat around the range of RM12-RM14.

“The board will be the body or organisation that will focus on the development of both sago and nipah industries and formulate policies for their development,” he said.
