KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) must be wise in making its decision on whether or not to welcome Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang back.

Political analyst Dick Lembang Dugun said that it would have an impact on the party’s performance for the Lubok Antu constituency in the 15th General Election (GE15).

“If based on Jugah’s performance for almost five years as MP, PRS might accept him back. But the big question is, how will PRS members in Lubok Antu accept this move?

“Will the potential PRS candidate who lobbied to contest for the coming GE15 be satisfied if the party accepted Jugah?

“So, these must be addressed by PRS first before coming to a decision,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted today for his thoughts on the matter.

Lembang also said if PRS already had its own winnable candidate for GE15, then the party might reject Jugah’s application.

“If the party accepts Jugah, of course Jugah will be chosen as the candidate, otherwise why would Jugah apply to rejoin PRS if he is not selected as the candidate. Clearly, Jugah needs a platform to contest in GE15.”

He believed that PRS already had its own candidate for GE15. “Having said that, the candidate must be a local and accepted by the grassroots. So, PRS might be in a dilemma on this issue.”

Lembang opined that the outcome of Jugah’s application would be decided by PRS and other component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should not interfere otherwise it would send a wrong signal to the public.

“PRS must have its own autonomy on this matter, the party must be seen as independent and not controlled by others.”
