Civil defenders hold up the reticulated python that was entangled in a net after its attempt to make a meal of chickens was thwarted.

KANOWIT: A daring attempt by a five-foot-long reticulated python to make a meal of chickens in a coop, was thwarted successfully by a net this morning (Dec 7).

The incident, which happened at around 10 am at Rumah Jali, Sungai Maong, saw an elderly man discovering the 4kg reptile ensnared in a net.

Sibu Civil Defence Force (APM) district officer Major Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Badrudin said that they were immediately alerted for assistance.

Following that, a three-member team was dispatched to the scene and successfully captured the python, which was still in close proximity to the chicken coop.

After the capture, the reptile was safely released into its original habitat, located away from the village area.

With the python secured, the team proceeded to address another incident at Rumah Danan, Sungai Bawan, responding to a distress call concerning a trapped cat.

Upon arrival, the team verified that the cat was indeed trapped in the rainwater catchment on the roof.
