KUCHING: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah visited the Ranee Museum at the Old Court House here.

Her Majesty arrived at 10.20am yesterday, welcomed by Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang; Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati) members; and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit.

After an hour visiting the museum, Her Majesty was then treated to a cooking demonstration on traditional food and savoured local delicacies such as ‘bubur pedas’ and ‘linut’.

Her Majesty also visited a handicraft exhibition, and was later presented with a book titled ‘Songket dan Keringkam: Warisan Melayu Sarawak’, a headscarf and a handbag that had specially-woven gold ‘keringkam’ as souvenirs.

The book was a project between the Sarawak government, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Tun Abdul Razak Campus.

The project, led by Juma’ani, aimed to enhance and empower the songket and embroidery community in Sarawak.
