Rafting prizes worth RM27k up for grabs

SERIAN: Cash prizes worth RM27,000 are up for grabs in the multiple categories of the Serian Rafting Challenge Festival 2022.

To be held this Saturday (July 23) the festival will offer five categories for contest, comprising male open, female open, youth open and mixed category for government agencies and departments alongside mixed category for hotels and tourism agencies.

The competition consists of challenges as far as 25 kilometres which will go down through Batang Sadong/Kayan River.

Contestants will be released from Kampung Tema Mawang, Tebedu district as the starting line and will end at Kampung Tebakang Dayak, in Serian district.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sindang Bada will be given the honour to officiate at the starting event.

Apart from the competition that is held annually, the finale will be highlighted by the beauty pageant cum contest for the titles such as Bilanting Queen, Miss Photogenic, Miss Talent and Miss Popular.

The competition that showcases the bevy of beauties from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian will be held at the yard of Tebakang Cina market, Serian.

Three former beauty queens, namely Larissa Ping from Miss World Malaysia 2018, Dewi Liana Seriestha from Miss World Malaysia 2014 and Yvonne Ashley from Miss Earth Fire Kuala Lumpur 2016 are expected to be judges for the beauty contest.

The evening event will also feature several stage shows, karaoke competition and sales activities.

Special Envoy of the Prime Minister (Japan, South Korea and Taiwan) Datuk Seri Dr Richard Riot Jaem, who is also the Serian MP, is expected to officiate at the closing event cum prize presentation ceremony.

Interested members of the public are invited to come to the expo site at the carpark of Serian Community Hall.
