KUCHING: The 27th Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), themed ‘Evolution,’ is set to return from June 28 to 30, blending cultural motifs with electrifying EDM beats for an unforgettable experience.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his anticipation that the RWMF 2024 would surpass the total attendance of around 20,000 recorded in RWMF 2023 for the entire festival weekend.

“The Rainforest World Music Festival 2024 transcends its role as a mere music festival; it embodies the theme of ‘Evolution,’ where sustainability, responsible tourism, and cultural exchange blend in perfect harmony.

“Additionally, I am thrilled to hint at a special event in conjunction with RWMF 2024. This event aligns with the core values of our festival and aims to leave a lasting impact on sustainability, youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and an indigenous-centred approach.

“Our aim is to leave a lasting impact by celebrating the wisdom and perspectives of indigenous communities, all while sharing our passion for rainforest conservation. Stay tuned for more details to be unveiled soon.”

He made these remarks while officiating at the launch of the RWMF 2024 at the Sheraton Hotel here on Friday (March 22).

On the same note, STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor announced the introduction of eco-friendly, compostable packaging for all smaller stall items during the festival.

This initiative aims to actively promote sustainability, urging attendees to join in the mission to minimise waste and make a positive impact on the environment.

“Comfortable sitting areas using sustainable materials will greet festival-goers, echoing our festival’s environmental ethos.

“To further reduce plastic usage, we encourage attendees to utilise the complimentary bottles throughout the event.

“These small steps have become a signature RWMF tradition, which will continue to contribute to our larger goal of creating a greener, more sustainable festival experience.”

She also revealed exciting news that the countdown for RWMF ticket purchases will soon commence on the Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) website.

With ticket prices starting at RM635 for the entire three-day event, interested individuals can check the website for details.
