KUCHING: Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar presented Ramadan donation to 60 needy recipients at Surau Hidayatul Rahman, Kpg Gersik here last Sunday night.

The recipients comprised elderly folks, the disabled, needy families and orphans from Kpg Gersik and Kpg Boyan.

During the function, Junaidi also announced a personal donation of RM5,000 to Surau Hidayatul Rahman to run its activities.

He was officiating at a Tadarus Al-Quran ceremony and presentation of Ramadan donations.

Junaidi and her wife, Datuk Sri Feona Wan Junaidi also joined in a breaking of fast with the villagers and performed Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers.

In his speech Junaidi reminded the parents to prepare their children with the right Islamic values to face the challenges and influences in today’s social media era.

According to him, the influences from social media which are easy to access will become a medium for Islamic State (IS) or Daesh to promote their negative ideology especially to children.

“Our children have yet to understand fully the true and real meaning of Islam. Hence, through social media, all type of messages and propagandas from Daesh or IS can easily be spread,

“Therefore, as adult Muslims we should play our role in guiding our children not to be influenced by such messages and propagandas,” he said, adding that parents must monitor their children’s activities especially when they surfed the Internet and social media.
