PUSA: Youth should be taught to recognise the culture of other people so that the heritage of a nation can continue to flourish in Sarawak.

Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the diversity in Sarawak made it unique and although there is diversity, the community can live together and be united ― this is because society values tolerance.

“Thus, during the Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season, it is not unusual for multiracial people to celebrate CNY together through their visiting activities.

“This night we saw the youth performing lion dances and some of them are not only the Chinese, but there are Malays, Ibans and others as well.

“We strongly encourage the youth to recognise the culture of others so that the heritage of a nation will continue to flourish,” she said on Friday night when officiating at the Angpau Festival and Dinner in conjunction with CNY 2020, jointly organised by the Batang Lupar Parliamentary Service Centre, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pusa branch, SJKC Chung Hua Pusa school management board, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and Pasar Pusa Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

Rohani further recommends digital technology in everyday life to improve the standard of living and it should be used wisely and not misused.

Meanwhile, Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor expects the Tiong Hua community in Pusa to continue support the state government’s leadership.

He said the progress achieved today was on the decline of solidarity.

“As we unite, I am confident that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wish to bring Sarawak towards the advanced state in 2030 will be achieved.

“It will benefit everyone including the rural community,” he said.

About 500 school children and Pusa residents around Pusa attended the event.

Rohani and Razaili each contributed RM5,000 to PTA and the school management board respectively.
