KUCHING: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching is coming up with a system to monitor the recruitment and placement of Indonesian workers in Sarawak.
Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono said the proposed system will monitor the recruitment and placement of the workers from the mainstream to downstream industries.
“One of the challenges that we are facing is we have many Indonesians here… some of them are undocumented or they had documentations expired.
“It is difficult for us when they are involved in cases like accidents or unexpected circumstances because when we check our data, they are not (documented) in it,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Raden said the consulate wants to ensure that every Indonesian – not only workers and students – have proper documentation when coming into Sarawak.
Without proper documentation, he said it is difficult not only for the person involved but also to the company he or she works for and the consulate when incidences occur.
“There have been cases where we receive information from the hospital, police or immigration and we will try our best to help the person return to Indonesia.
“We would issue a one-off Surat Perjalanan Laksana Paspor (SPLP) or special pass for the person to return to Indonesia without any problems,” he said.
Earlier, Raden received a courtesy visit from New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak chief executive officer Dr Jeniri Amir together with New Sarawak Tribune managing editor Aden Nagrace, business development and special functions executive Dorge Rajah as well as Suara Sarawak executive editor Rohana Wahed.
During the courtesy visit, Raden shared on the plans and progress of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara in West Kalimantan.
