KUCHING: The Sarawak government plans to review the allowances given to Kelas Agama and Fardu Ain (KAFA) teachers in the state.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) will be tasked to look into the matter.

He revealed that the state government would in future establish a system of granting allowances to KAFA teachers and trained religious teachers through institutions recognised by the government.

“Perhaps in the future we will have our own system to give allowances to KAFA teachers, including teachers trained at institutions recognised by the government.

“So let’s all pray that the funds for Sarawak will increase and at the same time increase the allowance from the federal government to KAFA teachers.

“I will study with JAIS on how the state can provide some allowance as a reward for their services,” he said during a ‘Randau Belia Islam Dengan Premier’ programme at the Islamic Complex here on Today (Nov 11).

He added that the Sarawak government was also planning to establish an Islamic Faculty in a local university.

“The plan is based on a full-time private Islamic study institution in Singapore, namely Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah,” he added.
