KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap and village chief Shaari Majidi conducted a final inspection, officially handing back a repaired house in Lorong 7, Kampung Stutong Melayu recently.

The funding of RM15,000 came under the ‘Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak’ (PPRMS) of N12 Kota Sentosa.

The repairs, including foundation, wooden flooring, walls, and roof, were carried out through communal work by volunteers from Kampung Stutong Melayu village security and development committee (JKKK).

Responding to a distress call about an unemployed single mother facing housing issues recently, Yap initiated urgent assistance.

The comprehensive repairs involved a hardwood-cement foundation, new wooden planks for flooring, cement board walls, and spandex roofing.

During the official handover ceremony after repairs to Hamidah Jubni, Yap thanked all volunteers from the JKKK who had participated and contributed their time and effort towards assisting the less fortunate in the event, which demonstrated unity, resilience, compassion, and care through helping the needy.

PPRMS, a Sarawak government initiative, provides up to RM15,000 to help those below the poverty line.

The programme’s main objective is to ensure basic facilities and comfortable residences for the needy, contributing to an improved quality of life.

Towards this end, Yap expressed his commitment to the well-being of his constituents, encouraging those in need of house repairs to seek assistance from community leaders in the constituency.
