BINTULU: Tanjung Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has suggested three steps to reduce the traffic jam at Jalan Bakeri Ting heading towards Jalan Tun Razak in order to ease the moving of the vehicles.

He said that Tanjung Batu community service centre received a number of complaints from residents within the Jalan Tanjung Batu and Taman Lucky Tower area in regards to the problem.

As the matter of fact, there were some of the complaints where residents in the areas were not informed whether on the closing of the roads or changes of the route.

“It was being told that Bintulu Development Authority has made the announcement on the changes of the route on their Facebook page, but it was not made aware to the public.

“Local authorities should made the announcement not only on social media but also through printing media and digital media such as radio,” he said when met by reporters while doing an inspection to the project site of Kampung Assyakirin piping system and inspecting the traffic jam at Jalan Bakeri Ting, together with Bintulu Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Bintulu Public Works Department (PWD) here recently.

The piping works in Kampung Assyakirin is in progress.

He took the example on the Medan Jaya flyover development that prepared a sign board which clearly attracted the road user.

“Firstly, the contractors should prepare a very clear signboard with enough ease towards the temporary roads without affecting the vision of the road user.

“The contractors and local authority should make the announcement and give early reminder to the public before the beginning of the road closing.

“Second suggestion is that contractors must build enough temporary road in order to fulfil the use of the road. If the road closing for maintenance purposes is the dual carriageway, then they should build the same road as well, which is the dual carriageway as the temporary road,” he added.

He added that third suggestion is to suggest the contractors to not close the road if there is no necessity since it was being told that no maintenance works or development have been done towards the involve road closure.

He hope all the three suggestions can be fully accepted by contractors and local authorities especially BDA in efforts to ease the burden of the traffic jam within the areas, thus hoping that the work can be done quickly for the sake of safety of the road users.

“I was told by the involved contractors, that the development project (Kampung Assyakirin piping system) is delayed due to unavoidable technical difficulties.

“However, the involved parties promised they will speed the process with hopes that it would not be delay anymore,” he added.
