Rep visits storm victims at evacuation centre

Pang visits the Iris Garden apartment victims at the temporary evacuation centre.

BINTULU: Touched by the fate of all the occupants from the six blocks of Iris Garden apartment after the roofs were blown off during an afternoon storm recently, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming spent time to meet the victims at a temporary evacuation centre (PPS), Kampung Assakyirin Community Hall Phase 1.

When met on Friday, he said all the people, whose homes were affected by the storm at the Iris Garden apartment would be provided with immediate assistance including repair works on their damaged homes.

He said, at a special meeting of the Bintulu Disaster Management Committee chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on Friday morning, it was unanimously agreed to mobilise all relevant agencies to help and ease the burden of affected victims as their home could not be occupied after the storm.

According to him, as elected representative of the people in the area, he would take responsibility to help all the affected victims and assistance will be worked out as soon as possible.
 
Meanwhile, Pang would like to thank government agencies such as the Social Welfare Department (JKM), National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Resident and Bintulu District Office, BOMBA, police and relevant agencies in assisting the affected victims.

In the incident at around 2 pm on Thursday, a total of 47 families involving 184 residents were affected after the fifth floor roof in the six blocks of Iris Garden apartments were torn off and blown away during the storm.

So far, five families have been temporarily housed at the PPS, which is open starting from 4 pm last Thursday.
