KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) officially launched its redesigned Elantra yesterday with a revolutionary new exterior design and interior refinements.

Hyundai’s C-segment sedan, the Elantra remains one of HSDM’s best sellers since 2012 and with the launch of this new bold design, HSDM aims to strengthen its presence in the medium-sized passenger car segment, the company said.

“The Elantra has always been a strong contender in the C-segment due to its competitive advantage i.e. stylish design, engine performance and advanced convenient features. We believe this revolutionary new design that is modern, sporty and elegant will also appeal to a broader market of various age groups,” said Low Yuan Lung, managing director of HSDM.

The redesigned Elantra features an overall length of 4,620mm, which is 70mm longer than the previous version, while its wheelbase remains the same. Anchoring the new design are the new triangular headlights, tail lights and rear fog lamps as well as a new sporty radiator grille.

The cabin is also refreshed with a new sporty chequered cluster meter design, a newly designed multifunctional steering wheel with control buttons, all-black plush leather seats and a soft touch material dashboard, the company added.

This new version also introduces the Smart Drive Mode intelligent system that identifies your driving style and then automatically selects a driving mode i.e. Normal or Sport, that is best suited to your driving needs.

Built with high-strength steel with the use of 53 per cent of advanced high-strength steel, the Elantra has a stiffer torsional rigidity and 25.3 percent greater bending strength, which bring improvements in vehicle ride and handling, quietness, durability and driving performance, the company said.

It also has an increased structural adhesive application 40 times at higher stress points on the chassis to reinforce welding areas.

A component often found in aerospace applications, these structural adhesives also contribute to improved NVH and vehicle dynamics due to extra stiffness in the chassis.

Hyundai engineers focused on these enhancements to develop a more rigid body structure, with the aim of achieving top safety ratings by the IIHS and NHTSA.

The Elantra is available in 5 popular colours, namely Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Teal Blue, Fluid Metal and Polar White. In addition to the 5 colours, limited edition colours such as Stargazing Blue and Sparkling metal are also available for a limited period of time in conjunction with the official launch.

It comes with a on-the-road price (without insurance, Peninsular Malaysia) of RM109,888 for the 2.0L Executive variant.

HSDM offers a 5-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger vehicles. A 24-hour road assist service is also now available to new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
