2020 State Budget

The Sarawak government will set aside RM30 million to help Sarawakian students repay their loans to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional ― PTPTN).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed this in his speech on the 2020 State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

He said it was brought to his attention that some Sarawakian graduates were having difficulties in making repayment of their PTPTN loans and there are those who were not able to secure the loans for various reasons.

“Being a responsible government, we empathise with these graduates,” he said, adding that the State government would work out an appropriate mechanism to assist those in need of the assistance.

“I sympathise with them because they thought the other side (Pakatan Harapan) would abolish the PTPTN repayment. So, the State government has to help them,” he said.
