RM3,000 fine for man stealing branded glasses

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court today sentenced a young man to an RM3,000 fine or three months in prison for possessing stolen property, nine branded glasses belonging to an optical shop.

In front of Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi, accused Issa, 25, pled guilty to a charge read by an interpreter.

According to the charge sheet, he stole seven Rayban and three Gentlemonster brand sunglasses from a 59-year-old male dealer.

He had the items in a house in Kampung Semariang Lama Petra Jaya, around 11.50am, last October 13.

As a result, the accused is prosecuted under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum five-year prison sentence, a fine, or both if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, on September 25, the complainant was informed by his staff that the shop’s lock had been unlocked and an unknown individual had broken in.

Some things were missing after a search of the store.

The complainant then files a police report for additional action and inquiry.

Based on information, the accused was apprehended by police on October 13 at his apartment in Kampung Samariang Lama, along with the case items.

During the arrest, the accused turned over a box containing nine sets of glasses with the business name tag still attached, which were suspected to have been stolen from the shop in question.

The Inquiry determined that the accused violated Section 411 of the Penal Code by storing and having stolen property.

The case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin, and the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
