MATU: The much-awaited Medan Niaga Matu building, constructed at a cost of RM500,000, has been completed.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, it was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan on Tuesday (June 14).

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya and Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi were among those present.

The Medan Niaga can accommodate 40 lots in the inside and 60 lots in the open space.

Work began on March 31, 2021 with Matu and Daro District Council (MDMD) as the implementing agency.

Priority will be given to roadside traders in front of Tian Clinic to move into the Medan Niaga and they can also operate on a daily basis.

The business site area will be used for a farmers market every Saturday where a daily permit charge will be imposed on traders.
