KUCHING: A total target of RM7 mil has been set to help cancer patients and other chronic patients in need following the launch of the Health waqf, said Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kadim Suaidi.
According to Kadim, the establishment of Health Waqf will be an effort to support Sarawak’s focus on providing good health care services and to develop progress in the field.
“Sarawak is also very concerned about the provision of health care services in the state.
“Since health is the most valuable asset for every individual, the Health waqf will be able to attract philanthropists among alumni, corporate parties, industries, the public, private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals from within and outside of the country,” he said.
Kadim said this in his welcoming address at the launch of the International Conference on Waqf and Endowment (ICWE) 2023 held at a hotel here, today (March 16).
Following this, he said this would bring UNIMAS and Sarawak to another level in empowering waqf by involving community collaboration on and off campus for the general community in Sarawak and the whole country of Malaysia.
Donations can be channelled through the Endowment and Waqf Division, UNIMAS as the trustee.
At the same event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also exchanged between UNIMAS and Hacettepe University, Turkiye, witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The MoU is the first step in the commitment of UNIMAS and Hacettepe University to increase academic and research collaboration, student activities, promote programmes, cultural exchanges and expand the scope of training for students, lecturers, and staff of both universities.
Also present were UNIMAS Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, Palestinian President’s advisor for religious affairs and Islamic relations, Dr Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Ambassador of Palestine to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali and other distinguished guests.
