MIRI: The Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), has allocated RM900,000 in funds for the construction of a multi-faith space building at Miri Hospital.

The construction of the two-storey building is scheduled to commence in March 2024 and will be carried out in two phases.

Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, who is also the Pujut assemblyman, presented the cheque during a simple ceremony at Miri Hospital.

“The first phase is estimated to cost around RM2mil and will take approximately one year to complete.

“The building will be constructed on a site adjacent to Miri Hospital’s mortuary and operating theatres,” Yii said on Wednesday (Nov 1).

Phase one of the building will feature a main prayer hall for all religions, a waiting area, a children’s play area, and a counselling room.

Phase two will include a therapeutic garden. The project is a result of the Miri Hospital Visitors Board’s persistent efforts, as they have been lobbying for it since 2016.
