KUCHING: Improved road connectivity and public transportation across Sarawak will spur development and encourage economic activities.

Datuk Peter Mionos, the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre chairman, said that with the completion of Pan Borneo highway and other road projects, it will be a game-changer for Sarawak.

“The highway project truly makes life better. Given time it will definitely open up businesses, apart from creating townships and many other good things.

“We can see how convenient it is for people. Now, from Bung Bratak in Bau to Kota Samarahan it only takes a 40-minute drive when it was over an hour before the Pan Borneo highway.

“When it is fully completed from Kuching to Miri, the highway will be a game-changer in the development of Sarawak. It will surely transform this land all for the better.

“We will see other developments too, such as agricultural activities, businesses improving, booming tourism industry, manufacturing and mining,” he said today.

On the state’s plan to have Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) in Kota Samarahan, he said it is a wise move and will improve the livelihood of the people in the area.

“This could also be convenient for thousands of student from Univesiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Teknology MARA (UiTM) going back and forth to the city centre.

“This also further reduces the daily heavy traffic in Kota Samarahan as well,” he added.

Minos, who is the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, said the people of Samarahan are very excited about the ART project, which will be completed and operational by the end of 2025.

He also commented on the coastal highway which will open up the coastal areas to more opportunities and other development.

He said the coastal areas have been pretty neglected and left behind for not having good roads.
