MIRI: The daily routines of Rh Justin Langgi residents were disrupted as the water levels at Sungai Sah Ulu Niah surged yesterday (Nov 24).

Fortunately, the 46-door longhouse remained intact, nestled safely on higher grounds.

However, the route leading to the longhouse became impassable for vehicles as the water levels reached about three feet.

Meanwhile, several houses in Kampung Keluru Jaya Bekenu were inundated with floodwaters, about two feet high.

Only the ground floor was affected by the waters as the residents moved up to the upper floor for the time being.

The main road into the village was also deemed impassable for vehicles.

A spokesman for the Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) confirmed that a team had been dispatched to the location to monitor the water levels.

The surge in water levels was attributed to continuous rainfall last Thursday, leading to the rising waters and subsequent flash floods in low-lying areas.

No temporary relief centres (PPS) were opened as the situation remains under control.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding the water levels and evacuate to safety if needed.
