LANGKAWI: British luxury automobile maker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is keen to work with Sarawak to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the British car manufacturer’s intention was conveyed to him during discussions recently.

He said the company plans to make a trip to Sarawak to see for itself the production and use of SAF.

“I personally met and discussed with Rolls-Royce, they are interested. They want to see for themselves the SAF production process in Sarawak.

“Therefore, I will discuss with our side in Sarawak, especially our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, about this good development.

“There is a lot of interest in Sarawak’s SAF and it is a step forward for the future of the state,” he said.

He was interviewed by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA ’23) event at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), recently.

Hasbi said although the price of SAF is still expensive, it will decrease when the volume is increased.

“The involvement in the SAF industry shows that Sarawak is now at the forefront of sustainable green energy development as well as taking the lead in efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 2050 as outlined in the Paris Agreement,” he said.
