Rooftop ‘sungke’ and open-style dance to debut Saturday

KUCHING: The first ever rooftop ‘sungke’ (breaking of the fast) will be held at the creative hub, HAUS Kuching this Saturday (April 15).

HAUS Kuching co-founder and director, Syed Rusydie, said the programme sought to bolster the spirit of unity among people.

“Everybody loves food, not everybody has to be a Muslim to appreciate food during Ramadan. Visitors can bring their own food and mats while enjoying the beautiful sights from our rooftop,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

He added guests can purchase meals from the ground floor cafe, Jaws’ Shack.

“The free entry programme starts at 5.30pm and welcomes everyone from different ages, race and background,” he said.

An open dance style, All Movements Dance Showcase, he said, will be the highlight after the programme at the Black Space, 1st Floor HAUS

“The open-style dance is a fusion dance form that promotes self-expression in various genres of dance,” he said to “It is showcase of various dance styles,” he said.

Started by local dancer, Dylan Anding, it is an open choreography that is a blend of jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop moves to create funky intricate moves to jive to the beat of the music.

DJ Poppin How and eight performers from different groups, solos and duos will be featured namely Russell and Randell, (N)th, Maryam and Tiqah, Hatter, Danceholic, Tisha & Friends, SPADE Crew and Shaleen.
