KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today the statement by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman yesterday on the Foodpanda food delivery service did not reflect the government stand.

The prime minister said the Cabinet did not discuss the matter.

“It was Syed Saddiq’s personal opinion. He may have had a reason for making the statement,” he told reporters at the lobby of Parliament.

Dr Mahathir was asked about Syed Saddiq’s statement yesterday in his Twitter account that arrogance is not the solution to resolving the issues related to Foodpanda.

Syed Saddiq called for support for corporate companies that are fair to workers and consumers.

The minister’s statement followed a statement by Foodpanda Malaysia managing director Sayantan Das that the company will maintain the new payment scheme for delivery riders outside the Klang Valley.

The new payment scheme had received strong criticism and negative response from Foodpanda delivery riders. – Bernama
