Lee on working visit to Tasik Biru yesterday

BAU: The Ministry of Transport with the assistance of the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) will continue to monitor the safety of water transport facilities in the state.

Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this included tourism activities in the lake area that used boats as transportation facilities.

“We always monitor all types of transportation facilities to ensure that they are in compliance with the safety measures under the Sarawak River Ordinance.

“This includes transportation such as boats provided here (Tasik Biru), because we want to ensure the safety of passengers,” he told reporters after a working visit to Tasik Biru yesterday (March 1).

Overall, Lee said that he was satisfied with the safety level at the Tasik Biru Resort City area such as providing safety jackets and ensuring the floating pontoons were in safe condition.

“Tasik Biru has great potential to see an increase in tourist arrivals, so maintaining the safety of the people is important,” he added.

He urged the people to visit Tasik Biru by using the public bus service where the fare from Kuching to Bau would only cost RM1 per trip.

“Bus companies have also expressed their interest to add more buses so that they can ferry more people from one destination to another,” he said.

Also present was Deputy Minister of Transport II Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
