SEMATAN: A mother’s worst nightmare came true after her two-year-old child went missing at Jalan Kampung Perigi on Wednesday (Feb 15).

It was believed that the incident happened in the afternoon when the toddler’s mother was waiting for her husband to come back from work at the Perigi quarry hut.

The boy, identified as Muhammad Rayyan Bujang Abdul Qayyum, was playing around the area behind a shared house.

His mother later realised that her son was no longer in her sight and quickly searched for the boy with help from her husband and some workers.

The search was fruitless and they went to lodge a missing person’s report at the nearest police station.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Lundu station were promptly deployed to the scene.

The team launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation with assistance from the police, Civil Defence Force and quarry workers.

At press time, the toddler is still missing.
