KUCHING: Sarawak has set a benchmark for other states in Malaysia to invest in the area of sports, said Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Dr Mohamad Norza Zakaria.

He said this would provide opportunities for the younger generation to develop into healthy and productive individuals.

“In terms of sports development, Sarawak is an exemplary state that has made significant investments, especially at the grassroots level, by providing facilities and high-standard sports amenities suitable for hosting international-level sports tournaments,” he said.

He said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office today (Mar 25).

Mohamad Norza also said that Sarawak is ready to host the Malaysia Games (Sukma), which is the largest sporting event held in Malaysia.

“On another note, I would also like to express appreciation to the Premier and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah for providing OCM with the opportunity to play a role in bringing the Olympic movement to Sarawak,” he said.
