KUCHING: Sarawak has the potential to become the preferred region for Singaporeans seeking a second home, thanks to the Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme.

Sarawak Singapore Trade and Tourism Office (STATOS) chief executive officer Chew Chang Guan said they have received positive response from Singaporeans interested in applying for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme in Sarawak.

This interest stems from Sarawak’s provision of various facilities for Singaporeans considering relocation, particularly with the convenience of direct flights to Kuching, Miri, and Sibu.

“Singaporeans explore the potential of applying for MM2H in Sarawak, given that the flight from Singapore to Sarawak takes only one hour, making it easy for them to visit and stay here,” he explained.

Chew made these remarks during an interview with TVS today (Dec 28).

Expressing optimism, he said STATOS will persist in promoting Sarawak to Singapore as an ideal destination across various sectors, including trade and investment, to attract more program applicants.

“We want them to know more about Sarawak and increase their visits to the state. Sarawak offers various investment opportunities, including agriculture, aquaculture, data centres, as well as food and manufacturing.

“Focusing on sectors such as educational tourism, corporate business, and business events, rather than solely recreational tourism, is crucial for the tourism sector,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Chew noted that Sarawak recorded a 27 per cent increase in tourist arrivals from Singapore from January to October compared to the same period before the Covid-19 pandemic.
