MIRI: The Sarawak Endowment Fund (EFS) has witnessed a significant milestone with 91,163 accounts opened since 2019, totalling an allocation of RM91.16 million.

Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus highlighted the government’s commitment to provide RM1,000 in trust savings for every Sarawak child born through the EFS initiative. These funds would be accessible to the beneficiaries once they reach 18 years old, she explained.

“The EFS was introduced to support Sarawak children in their pursuit of higher education, career development, or as capital for business ventures. This assistance is particularly valuable for parents with multiple children.”

She made these remarks during the symbolic presentation ceremony of the EFS and Maternity Assistance (BIB) held at Miri Hospital in conjunction with the Sarawak Merdeka Digital Exhibition Programme: 60 Years of Sarawak Independence on Friday (June 9).

Rosey also highlighted the Maternity Assistance (BIB), which has incurred an expenditure of RM21.5mil.

The BIB provides cash assistance to “K” status mothers or wives of “K” status identity card holders, primarily aimed at supporting their post-delivery needs, including expenses for healthy nutrition and postpartum self-care.

The event was also attended by ministry permanent secretary Noriah Ahmad and Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu.
