KUCHING: Sarawak would need to inject RM64 billion into the state’s economy to generate between six to eight per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth by the year 2030, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This is not an easy task. But Alhamdulillah so far, our average budget per year is RM10 billion.
“If we need RM64 billion to RM65 billion, based on our RM10 billion per year, that means, it will only take us six years (to increase it).
“Moreover, the contribution from the private sector will add more to our GDP growth, so we may be able to achieve between six to eight percent in 2030.
“Once it is achieved, we will be able to raise our economic level as well as the household income.”
He said this during his congratulatory speech in conjunction with the launching of Sarawak Energy’s Ten Year Integrated Tree Planting, Protection and Habitat Restoration Programme at Samajaya Nature Reserve on Monday (June 13).
Abang Johari pointed out that if Sarawak continued to generate more income, the State’s economic strategic infrastructure would definitely improve.
“With this, Sarawak will be able to become a developed state in Malaysia by 2030,” he added.
