KUCHING: Sarawak reported 392 occupational accidents, with 22 resulting in fatalities last year, according to Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak director Dr. Nor Halim Hasan.
According to him, the manufacturing sector had the highest number of deaths, with six cases, followed by the agricultural sector and the construction sector, each with three cases.
Dr. Nor Halim said that employers have a responsibility to address risks, while employees must follow safety and health regulations at work.
He said this during the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Workshop on the Modernisation of Sarawak Water Supply, which was organised by LAKU Management Sdn Bhd at a hotel here recently.
To avoid accidents, Dr. Nor Halim highlighted the importance of conducting thorough risk assessments. He said this involves creating comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) that include identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing measures to control or eliminate those risks.
