Sarawak records 250 new positive cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 250 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s tally to 10,674.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today said that of the total cases, 123 were recorded in Sibu District, Meradong (36), Bintulu (21), Kuching (17), Kapit (17), Miri (14), Julau (seven), Serian (four), Daro (three), two cases each in Asajaya, Samarahan, and Selangau, and one cases each in Dalat and Sri Aman.

On the breakdown of the cases, the committee said out of the 123 cases in Sibu District, 87 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts of positive cases, 20 were other screenings at health centres, 14 were symptomatic cases screened at the health centres, and two involved medical workers at the health facilities.

SDMC said in Meradong District, of the 36 cases, 33 involved the Sungai Bakong Cluster, two individuals were screened through ACD, and one involved a medical worker of which this case has been categorised as an Import C case after being infected from Sibu.

Of the 21 cases in Bintulu District, the committee said 17 individuals were screened through ACD with 16 cases categorised as local transmission and one case categorised as an Import C case after being infected from Miri. While the other three were other screenings, and one was a symptomatic case.

In Kuching, SDMC said nine cases involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, while five individuals were screened through ACD, and three were detected after returning from high-risk area for Covid-19 — all cases has been categorised as an Import B case with two being infected from Selangor and one case being infected from Kuala Lumpur.

The committee said while in Kapit District, nine individuals were screened through ACD, six involved the Pasai Cluster, and two were other screenings.

SDMC said Miri District, 11 were individuals screened through ACD, two were symptomatic cases, and one was other screening, while the seven cases in Julau were all detected through ACD.

In Serian District, SDMC said of the four cases reported, two were other screenings, one involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster  — case categorised as an Import C after being infected from Kuching, and another one was detected through ACD.

The committee said in Daro District, all three cases were other screenings, and all cases have been categorised as an Import C case after being infected from Bintulu.

While the two cases each reported in Samarahan and Asajaya Districts, SDMC said it involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

As for the two cases in Selangau District, the committee said one involved the Buloh Cluster, and the other one was detected through ACD.

For the single case in Dalat District, the committee said it was a symptomatic case, while for the single case in Sri Aman District, it was screened through ACD.
