KUCHING: Sarawak’s crime index figures in the first month of the year are low and under control.

This was revealed by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Datuk Azri Ahmad during a press conference at the Sarawak Contingent police headquarters (IPK) on Friday (Feb 11).

“Only 327 crime index cases were reported in January, compared to 377 cases for the same period last year – a decline of 50 cases.

“Taking into account that a total of 4,524 crime index cases was reported nationwide in January this year, Sarawak only contributed 7.23 per cent to Malaysia’s crime index.

“This ranks Sarawak IPK sixth compared to other IPKs,” he said after attending the handing over of duties between outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail and acting Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata.

For violent crimes, Sarawak recorded five more cases this year with 45 cases in January, compared to 40 cases for the same period last year.
