SIBU: Sarawak is urging for an increase in the hajj quota by at least 10 per cent of Malaysia’s total Hajj quota, which is currently set at 31,600 pilgrims.

According to Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak has only been allocated around 800 slots for Hajj pilgrims, while the remaining quota is reserved for other states.

“It is always raised in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) that this application from Sarawakians to at least get 10 per cent of the hajj quota reserved for Sarawak,” he said during his speech at the ‘Perdana Haji’ course organised by Tabung Haji (TH) here.

Furthermore, Len congratulated TH for winning the Labbaitom Award for the Best Awareness Programme Islamic World from the Saudi Arabian government, stating that the achievement is not only a source of pride for TH, but also for all Malaysian Muslims.

He also hoped that the award would inspire TH to continue innovating and improving their services for future Hajj pilgrimages.
