MIRI: Sarawak has always been a place where different races and religions coexist and respect each other for the common good, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central leader, Kelvin Hii.

“Extremism has never been encouraged here. As former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem once said, all those born in Sarawak, regardless of their skin colour or spoken language, are Sarawakians and not considered as outsiders.

“Sarawak serves as a shining example of peaceful coexistence among diverse races and religions. In the same restaurant, various ethnic cuisines can be enjoyed together, and religious places allow freedom of worship,” he said.

He added, each year, different religious denominations hold parades and celebrate their respective religious festivals. During festive seasons, friends of different races can come together to celebrate.

“The people of Sarawak take great pride in living in this harmonious land,” Hii pointed out.

He stated that maintaining this positive environment requires the collective efforts of all the people.

“It should not be easily influenced by external forces or non-local political parties. The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) now holds an important position within the federal Unity Government.

“Although part of the federal government, GPS has its own political ideology and development direction for Sarawak. To achieve prosperity, Sarawak requires the perseverance and efforts of every Sarawakian, and political stability is an important factor in this journey,” he said.

As Sarawak moves towards a prosperous era, more talents are needed. Hence, Hii encourages more Sarawakians to return to their homeland and contribute to its development.

“As mentioned by the Premier, as long as you are a Sarawakian, Sarawak needs your involvement regardless of your skin colour or ethnicity. Sarawak has reached this point due to the collective efforts of all Sarawakians. It is hoped that all Sarawakians will continue to work together to create a stronger and more prosperous Sarawak,” he said.
