KUCHING: Sarawak Skills will be offering a short course on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Service and Maintenance in the first week of October.

According to the statement, the two-day course will be conducted at the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR) located at the Demak Laut Industrial Estate, here.

AWISAR General Manager Jaidil Yakop said the course is being conducted following requests from various automotive centres and workshops to offer a short training programme to enhance the skill sets of technicians and other staff members, specifically in the area of servicing and maintenance of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs).

“Therefore, the upcoming training programme covers an overview of HEVs with a focus on working principles, technologies and safety working procedures around electric/hybrid vehicles.

“There will also be a session on electric/hybrid vehicle hazard management for emergency and recovery personnel,” he said.

He added that during the two-day programme, the practical sessions will enable participants to gain first-hand knowledge and skills in these areas.

“In a nutshell, this programme will boost industry-relevant knowledge and skills for those involved in this industry, including technicians and supervisors.

“This programme would also be suitable for anyone interested to learn about hybrid and electric vehicles service and maintenance,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the ongoing automotive-related developments at Sarawak Skills, he noted that the institution takes great pride in complementing the government and the industries to develop the state’s and nation’s human capital.

“In this respect, in line with our role as a stakeholder in the transformation of Sarawak’s socio-economic landscape, Sarawak Skills plans to establish a Certified Training Centre for HEVs, EVs and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Sarawak.

“Indeed, our upcoming training programme is an important step in our ongoing role to support Sarawak’s transport sector, especially in facilitating the development of a workforce with specialised skills in maintenance of HEVs and EVs.

“This will also go a long way towards supporting the transformation of Sarawak’s six key economic sectors (main engines of growth) in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he added.
