KUCHING: Sarawak will potentially transition to and install solar energy in homes, in line with the state government’s commitment to green energy.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative will not only contribute to the sustainability of the environment but also significantly benefit the next generation.

“I have instructed Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to create a smart home design installed with solar panels.

Abang Johari speaking to reporters.

“With the excess energy available, it could be channelled to SEB, which generally means there would be enough energy for future generations,” he said when met by reporters at the Premier’s Hari Raya open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today (Apr 23).

Abang Johari added that SEB has implemented the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES), which will supply solar energy to longhouses.

“Previously, longhouse residents would use diesel, which can be a burden to them. Now we can supply electricity to longhouses using solar energy,” he said.
